This year marked my first time ever attending Comic Con and I was more than excited to see what this event had waiting for me. I was more than happy to have shared this experience with some of my friends (Nikka, J, Bien, Kevin, Ian and Micha) and knowing that some of them have attended Comic Con before, made the scheduling and planning much easier. As we touched down in San Diego and made our way to the hotel, seeing non-stop Comic Con advertisements everywhere made everything that much real. Finally, we reached our hotel which became our home for the next 6 days which was literally right across the street from the Convention Center. After unpacking and getting settled in, we grabbed dinner at this place alled Burger Lounge which by far had one of the best tasting burgers I've ever had. I may be hyping it up a bit, but I can tell you it tasted fresh and delicious with every bite. The time for sleep has greeted us we knew the next day would be Preview Night of Comic Con.
Today, The Hundreds San Francisco had the pleasure of holding one of the most well-known and popular Asian adult video vixens of today, Asa Akira's book signing. Asa is not only known for her sexual talents, but her funny and down to earth personality she spreads on her partnering PodCast (DVDASA) with legendary street artist, David Choe.
By the time me and Camille made it to the signing, half of the block was already drowning in a seas of anxious fans. It wasn't until 2 and half hours later when we finally stepped foot inside The Hundreds store and there was Asa, looking beautiful and gorgeous as ever. I was pretty bummed I wasn't able to grab a limited edition shirt in my size, but I did purchase the main reason why she was there which was her book. I then made my way to meet her and she was just so chill and easily approachable that my nerves went away. After exchanging words of praise, I took a photo with her and said my goodbyes. On the BART ride home, I read the first couple of pages from her book and already I knew that it was going to be one hell of a read. I'll make sure to review the book once I am finished with it but until then, I recommend picking up a copy yourself if you are curious, horny or just plain looking for an interesting read. After being almost a year since I graduated from San Francisco State University, I find myself walking on the old stomping grounds of where I used to study, stress and basically everything you can imagine a college student goes through. I felt nostalgic roaming the halls of where I spent most of my time at SFSU and seeing new design work up on the walls made the place even more anew to me. As I was heading to Jack Adams Hall for the Design Exhibit, I ran into one of my professors Heidi Dunkelgod. It was nice catching up with her and seeing the old classroom I used to hang out with my friends and had most of my classes in.
Heading up the staircase to the exhibit, I then ran into another professor of mine, Joshua Singer. He was my Graphic Design 1 professor where I learned that the fundamentals of C.R.A.P. is very important in the Design World. Right as I walk into the Exhibit, I see a bunch of lit-up boards and design projects everywhere. The overall vibe of the exhibit felt like a modern Science Fair with the way the booths were built and the layout was organized. I actually enjoyed this year's exhibit theme because it was more spacious and executed well compared to last year's exhibit. It was a pleasure to get a sense of how the new Design Students viewed the world and what methods they used to bring their ideas/concepts to life. I felt like the exhibit showcased more of the Product Design side of DAI which I was very impressed by (considering I was a Graphic Design student). After a couple of glimpses at all the designs, I made my way to catch up with old classmates and professors I haven't seen in the longest time. Hearing all their stories and what they have been up to made me feel like I was growing up and the reality of me being an SFSU alumni finally hit me. 3 hours later, it was time to call it a day and me, Paul and Sho took one stroll down memory lane in the Design Halls. I am proud of all the new students who are holding it down for the DAI program at SFSU and one day, you'll look at your work and feel just as grown up as I did today. If you are in the area, I suggest checking out this exhibit. It is located at San Francisco State University inside Jack Adams Hall. I had the pleasure to attend one of my favorite artist's art show grand opening in San Francisco at Fifty24SF Gallery. Nychos is heavily known for his unique and mortifying art style of splitting up people, animals and just about anything you can imagine. His ability to illustrate the anatomy of various things is so fascinating and gruesome at the same time. Here are a few shots I was able to take in a small room filled with people in it. Bare with me as I plan to take another visit to the gallery for a better opportunity to take shots when there aren't so many people around. Until then, enjoy these.
Today marked the first Hundreds SF Street Meet which was hosted by Bobby and Ben Hundreds with special guests Van Styles and Travis Jensen. I was very excited to attend this event not only to hang out with some of the people I look up to, but to also get back into photography. Its been a while since I've taken photos of anything (excluding Instagram photos) and I knew this was the motivation I needed to spark my love for photography again.
After walking for 6 hours with little bits of rest, I was pleased to have shared a lot of amazing moments with new people who had the same passion of photography as I do. Events like today's helped me realize to just keep doing what you love and to never lose sight of that. Thanks Bobby and Ben Hundreds, Van Styles, Travis Jensen and everyone who made this experience a good one. #thehundredsishuge #streetmeetsf All things must come to an end and frankly, it had to be my favorite show of all-time, Breaking Bad. This show has everything from drama to comedy and everything in between. The hidden messages, meanings and symbolism used throught the series are beyond many's imagination and finding when I noticed something for the first time after a couple of watches, I fall deeper in love with the show. Vince Gillian, creator of Breaking Bad, is a remarkable writer and what makes him different from other writers/creators is that he'll always make you think you know what's going to happen next and for the most part, you're most likely to end up being wrong. Haha.
Yesterday, I got to celebrate the final episode of Breaking Bad with some friends where we had various foods that were based from the show. We had our very own Crystal Blue Meth (rock candy), Los Pollos Hermanos Chicken (Popeyes/KFC Chicken), Veneria's Pizzera Pizza (Domino's), Funguns and even Hank's Beer "Schradarbau" (Blue Moon Beer). There are a few dishes we left out like Breaksfast Eggs and Bacon, Tuco Burritos and Krazy 8 PB&J sandwiches. but the amount of food we had already was a lot haha. After watching the last episode, I am very satisfied on how it ended, but knowing that its over ... leaves me saddened. I don't think any show can top Breaking Bad at the moment and I am not being biased either. I know some might say The Wire is up there (which I haven't watched but planning to), but Breaking Bad was beautifully crafted in any way possible. I hope to see Breaking Bad replaying on TV for a couple of years because it deserves it and much more. Thanks Vince Gilligan for creating mine and many other's favorite TV show! I enjoyed the journey and can't wait to see what happens now with the writers/cast. |
